Church Sound Team Training

One of the things I have done many times, enjoy the most, and believe God has
enabled me to do is to invest my gifting into the Church by training Church sound
teams to a level of excellence you may not have known before.
The underlying
conviction is that 'sound people' are ministers in a practical way serving
in the presence of God! and therefore must exercise our craft with excellence and humility. Knowing that our attitude / skill (and demonstration thereof) has the power to make or break any church service.
I have not sought to re-write the wealth of training materials already available but recommend that a personal input is by far the best that I can offer.
I have had the pleasure of giving a little input in odd places like Kenya, Thailand and a tiny bit in the USA, (and for that matter can go anywhere) but mainly have worked here in Auckland, New Zealand.
One church I worked in here in Auckland has testified to 'incredible changes' in both the Music team,
Technicians and by result the Whole dynamic of the church services. This was a case where
I got to know the guys, went to many services and practices. Along with the tech-leader
we re-arranged equipment and solved several system problems but the main investment was in the People - sometimes a 'pep talk' but mostly hands-on training.
Why do I Charge? Frankly if there is a cost involved, churches tend to respect the training and advice given. There is material involved also but you will find that a small fee is nothing compared to the result. I have noticed if a church is not willing to pay for something so important then I can't help them much anyway.

How...
When I work with a Church on matters of sound, Normally I take a look over the whole picture and see which areas need work - some churches have a great team with good knowledge but Equipment could use some re-planning; some churches have good equipment but the team lack motivation.
The main emphasis in many cases is the spiritual motivation regarding the sound op' and the music team, because if this fails then you can spend time and money training 'ability' and 'gear' but change nothing.
Sound Engineer Needed?
I'm also available for hire, from small to big sound. I have no gear but can put you in touch with hire companies. Cost is negotiable but I do charge by the hour and travel costs. Contact me about your needs..

Effect...
"On Behalf of the Tamaki Christian Life Centre I am writing this [reference] for Rowan who has
recently done a lot of work for us here in our Auditorium. ... He helped achieve a much higher
quality of sound with his knowledge and experience shining through. As they say 'the proof is
in the pudding' - he was able to listen and adjust things to the particular sound we wanted to
achieve.
... Happily we have now inherited an ongoing quality of sound we did not have before.
He trained the present team, leaving them stronger in their knowledge and skill levels.
I
therefore have no hesitation in recommending Rowan to any position that requires the types of skills
referred to above and know that he will be an asset to any [church] in the sound area."
